Mayflower. 38 inch free flight sportster for up to 0.75cc power.

Quote: 'MAYFLOWER. A 38 inch freeflight Sportster for up to .75cc designed by A. Healey.
HERE'S a sports model that should satisfy a wide range of our readers. It lends itself admirably to Radio Control and is beautifully stable in flight so that it also becomes a worthwhile project for the novice. Designer A Healey chose the well-known Cessna Bird Dog and Skylane series as an inspiration for the general lines and we think he has achieved the effect very well indeed by producing this 'caricature' of the famous American light planes.

Commence by marking out fuselage sides on medium 1/16 in sheet balsa with former positions marked on the inside face (a ball pen is ideal). Cut the formers very carefully, making sure to alter position of the beaers if a different engine mounting is required. It is usual to mark the centre line on top and bottom as a guide when checking alignment before top and bottom sheeting is added.

Now bend undercarriage wires to shape, bind and cement wires to F2 and F3 respectively. Cement F1-F3 on bearers carefully and allow to dry. Cut out sides laying one side flat over the plan. When the F1-F3 assembly is dry, cement and pin temporarily F1-F5 on one side sheet, squaring up as one proceeds. Add opposite side sheet and allow to set.

Next, cement a scrap 1/16 sheet stern post in place, bringing both sides together at the rear and add remaining formers, wing mounts, gussets etc. Make sure the centre line marks line up, otherwise you will get a built-in turn if you are not careful ! Add top and bottom decking, soft block around the nose, dowels, cabin windows, bind and solder the undercarriage wires.

Mark and cut out all wing ribs, cut trailing edge and Join as shown on plan. Fix ribs on main spar, cement the leading and trailing edges and allow to dry. Remove from the plan and place the opposite wing half assembly in its place. Whilst the cement is drying add rear spar on to first wing half...'

'This feast of a book . . . will captivate readers from its opening double-page spread. . . . Sweeping and grand, this personal take on a familiar story is an engaging success.' -- Kirkus Reviews (starred review) Leaving the docks of London on the Mayflower as an indentured servant to Pilgrim John Carver, John Howland little knew that he was embarking on the adventure of a lifetime. By his great good fortune, John survived falling overboard on the crossing of the Atlantic Ocean, and he earned his keep ashore by helping to scout a safe harbor and landing site for his bedraggled and ill shipmates. Would his luck continue to hold amid the dangers and adversity of the Pilgrims' lives in New England? P.J. Lynch captures this pivotal moment in American history in precise and exquisite detail, from the light on the froth of a breaking wave to the questioning voice of a teen in a new world.

When the Mayflower embarked on her famous voyage to America in 1620, she was carrying 102 passengers. To most, they are simply known as the Pilgrims. Perhaps the name of Governor William Bradford, Elder William Brewster, or Captain Myles Standish are vaguely familiar; but the vast majority of the Mayflower passengers have remained anonymous and nameless. In The Mayflower and Her Passengers, I have attempted to resurrect the unique individuality of each passenger by providing short biographies for each person or family group. Also included is a groundbreaking new biography of the Mayflower ship itself.

Leading into the 400th anniversary of the voyage of the Mayflower, Martyn Whittock examines the lives of the “saints” (members of the Separatist puritan congregations) and “strangers” (economic migrants) on the original ship who collectively became known to history as “the Pilgrims.”The story of the Pilgrims has taken on a life of its own as one of our founding national myths—their escape from religious persecution, the dangerous transatlantic journey, that brutal first winter. Throughout the narrative, we meet characters already familiar to us through Thanksgiving folklore—Captain Jones, Myles Standish, and Tisquantum (Squanto)—as well as new ones. There is Mary Chilton, the first woman to set foot on shore, and asylum seeker William Bradford. We meet fur trapper John Howland and little Mary More, who was brought as an indentured servant. Then there is Stephen Hopkins, who had already survived one shipwreck and was the only Mayflower passenger with any prior Amer- ican experience. Decidedly un-puritanical, he kept a tavern and was frequently chastised for allowing drinking on Sundays.Epic and intimate, Mayflower Lives is a rich and rewarding book that promises to enthrall readers of early American history.

At the end of 1618, a blazing green star soared across the night sky over the Northern Hemisphere. From the Philippines to the Great Lakes, the comet became a sensation and a symbol, a warning of doom or a promise of salvation. Two years later, as the Pilgrims prepared to sail across the Atlantic on board the Mayflower, the atmosphere remained charged with fear and expectation. Men and women readied themselves for war, pestilence or divine retribution. Against this background, and amid deep economic depression, the Pilgrims conceived their enterprise of exile. Within a decade, despite crisis and catastrophe, they built a thriving settlement at New Plymouth, based on beaver fur, corn and cattle. In doing so, they laid the foundations for Massachusetts, New England and a new nation. Using a wealth of new evidence - from landscape, archaeology and hundreds of overlooked or neglected documents - Nick Bunker gives a vivid and strikingly original account of the Mayflower project and the first decade of the Plymouth Colony. Making Haste from Babylon tells the story of the early pilgrim settlers in unrivalled depth, from their roots in religious conflict and village strife at home to their final creation of a permanent foothold in America.

Voices of The Mayflower tells the story of a handful of religious fanatics, brave souls, crooks and cowards who sailed from Europe to New England 400 years ago - some in pursuit of religious freedom but most adventurers in the quest for riches. The narrative begins in 1602 six years before a small band known as Separatists flee persecution in England for the Netherlands. Exile is a painful disappointment but, undaunted, they sail the Atlantic in a rickety ship used for the Bordeaux wine trade to a world where they hope to create a perfect community. Half of them die within weeks of landing in New England. For the rest, there is nothing but a heroic struggle to survive famine, plague, ‘savages and wild lions’. They are cheated by their London backers and betrayed and almost bankrupted by one of their own. They confound their reputation as God-fearing folk by ruthlessly beheading a Native American chief. We share moments of love and loyalty - though most marriages are matters of cold convenience. There are stories of idealism and sacrifice but this is not a warm saga of ‘pilgrims’ living in saintly perfection; some are guilty of greed, duplicity and even murder. This is the story of The Mayflower and the voyage that changed the world.

In his sixth book on the Oak Island, Nova Scotia, mystery, James McQuiston has discovered some remarkable links of people associated with the arrival of the ship Mayflower, in 1620, to some of the more famous and recognizable names of those who settled or hunted for treasure on Oak Island. Nova Scotia was founded expressly to protect the Plymouth Colony and the colonies shared many of the same families, and to some degree, the same early history. The fact that Mayflower related families connect to Oak Island strongly supports McQuiston's theory that Sir William Alexander, a patentee of the Plymouth Colony, and the founder of Nova Scotia, had something significant to do with the beginning of the Oak Island mystery. This theory has ranked as #6 out of the top 25 with the current searcher for treasure on Oak Island. The family connections found by McQuiston are detailed and very significant in understanding this 225-year-old treasure hunt on Oak Island, as well as the history of the Mayflower descendants, and others who settled in the general area of Plymouth, Massachusetts.
